Embarking on another adventure, Paul and I found ourselves exploring the backroads of Langhorne Creek in search of a hidden gem, Little Pete Brewing. Driving down the gravel path, we were welcomed by the sight of a repurposed shipping container bar, inviting lounges under a sail-covered pergola, and pristine vineyards stretching into the distance. The iconic river red gums lining the Bremer River added to the charm, setting the perfect scene for a laid-back, rustic escape.
A warm welcome and a story worth sharing
Our anticipation was met with a warm welcome from Beck, one half of the dynamic duo behind this down-to-earth brewery. Beck generously gave us her time and shared some of their story. She and her husband, Warren, transformed a high school dream and a passion for beer into a thriving family-run brewery. Warren, an agronomist with a deep understanding of agriculture, and Beck, who has a background in consulting for vineyards, have combined their expertise to create a brewery that feels both refined and effortlessly welcoming. Their combined skillset has made their success feel almost inevitable, a natural fusion of expertise and love for a good beer that has shaped a thriving family-run brewery.
The name “Little Pete” pays homage to Warren’s great-grandfather, Harry, affectionately known as ‘Little Pete,’ a man with a big personality and an even bigger love for a good pint. And let’s be honest, there’s nothing better than a brewery with a great backstory and an even better beer selection.
The first open-air brewery bar in South Australia: a must-visit for beer lovers
As we settled into the cozy outdoor seating, it was impossible to ignore the uniqueness of this place. Little Pete Brewing is the first open-air bar of its kind in South Australia, a title that sets it apart from the usual craft beer scene. With a sprawling 20-acre property, this isn’t just a brewery; it’s an experience. The shaded pergola, comfy lounges, and laid-back vibe make it a spot where you can truly unwind. Add to that the outdoor games, fresh water bowls for your on-leash dog, and even a sandpit for the kids, and you have a place that welcomes everyone. But make no mistake, it’s not just about the setting. Their dedication to craft beer excellence shines through from the very first sip.
The beer paddle that ticked off Paul’s holiday bucket list

Paul’s holiday wish for a beer paddle of local brews was promptly fulfilled. Beck guided us through their seven signature beers on tap, each crafted with a commitment to quality and a nod to the local landscape. From the crisp and refreshing SA Draught, crafted as a tribute to South Australia’s rich brewing heritage to the Summer Session – A 2022 Indies Silver Medallist – a mid-strength brewed for summer, there’s definitely something to tantalise every palate.
Paul approaches beer tasting with the seriousness of an Olympic event, and Little Pete Brewing did not disappoint. The standouts? That’s for you to find out… but let’s just say, there was nothing left in those tasting glasses by the end!

The food: a build-your-own platter done right
Complementing the brews, a ‘build your own’ platter was on the menu, featuring an array of local produce from the Fleurieu region. With quality cheeses, meats, and nibbles, it’s a perfect way to settle in for the afternoon. The brewery’s grain-to-glass philosophy shines through, with a focus on sustainability and supporting local farmers, a true testament to their dedication to the community.
Is Little Pete Brewing worth the visit?
With the afternoon sun warming our faces and a gentle breeze carrying the inviting aroma of freshly poured beer, we knew this was one of those moments we’d always remember. Little Pete Brewing isn’t just a place to enjoy exceptional South Australian craft beer; it’s an experience. It captures the heart of Langhorne Creek, blending community spirit, quality craftsmanship, and natural beauty.
Whether you’re a craft beer enthusiast or simply seeking a cold beer and a moment to unwind, Little Pete Brewing is well worth the visit. It’s a place where stories are shared over a pint, and you really feel a connection to the community. Whether it’s a lively group gathering or a laid-back evening under the stars, we’re already counting down the days until our next visit.
Naturally, we couldn’t leave empty-handed. We stocked up on our favourite brews to keep the experience alive at home.
